Who We Are

The birth of Labprint came about when Mervyn and Gail Thompson started a small family business with an inoperative Uhlmann on-line printing machine.  Through tenacity and perseverance, the impossible was achieved – an excellent quality print on aluminium blister foil. Word of mouth brought more pharmaceutical clients to Labprint – the niche was the ability to print small quantities of foil with quick delivery times.

The business grew to accommodate the purchase of 2 additional printing machines. Labprint moved up from single colour to 4 colour print work. The components for a full, in house, machine shop was purchased to build a 900mm wide, 4 colour printing machine from scratch. A second wide web machine was completed in 2010 and a third on the drawing board by 2013.

Introduced by the mutual accounting firm, Paperchase, Labprint was taken over by Resulta Exporters, owned by Eric Juncker and Marlis Arkcoll. This was the start of a new era for Labprint with a brand new company logo which marked a complete Quality make-over.

The first phase of Labprint’s quality make-over was well underway with the segregation of the Flammable Store, Machine Shop, Canteen and Dressing Rooms. The print presses were re-arranged to allow for line clearance and segregated areas for stock. The dispatch area was also separated from the rest of the factory and the internal QMS was in the process of being written, guided by GMP and ISO9001 Standards.

Labprint was now ready for the second phase of the quality make-over. Guided by our pharmaceutical customer’s requirements, we installed a water air cooler to manage the environmental conditions as well as a dust filter. The factory was also sealed off with a one way in-and-out flow for staff and products. The PS9000 standards were included as an additional guideline for writing Standard Operating Procedures.

This was a year to start celebrating Labprint’s success. Eric and Marlis introduced our first long service awards with acknowledgements of 5; 10 and 15 years of service.

At Labprint we enjoy having fun and the team opted for a day at Gold Reef City with most of the staff spending much time on the Anaconda! This was a first for many of our team.

This marked the year of the Customer for Labprint and we introduced our very first “Customer Open Day.” Many of our key customers joined us for a tour of the production factory, explanation of our internal artwork systems and had the opportunity to meet with our print operators and ask questions.

Proud of what we have achieved without ever having to advertise, we decided it was time to take Labprint out into the marketplace. With our very first exhibition at the SAPHEX, we gained much interest and broadened our exposure to the industry.

The second long service awards were celebrated with an outing to the Lion Park. 5; 10; 15 and 20 years service was acknowledged!

Now, we realize that as a 30 plus year old company, we need to keep up with the times. So, we entered the social media space on Facebook; Instagram and Linked-in and also have the pleasure of introducing you to our brand-new website. Printing Excellence For 35 Years!

After two years of lockdown, Labprint enjoyed a wonderful day of team building and long service awards at Montecasino.

Taking control of the electricity situation, we installed a 25kWA generator, with the capacity to support all our print pressess as well as the office simultaneously. So no more down time during the frequent load shedding we experience.

2022 marked the year for diversification. We acquired and introduced our new foil lidding line for printed, embossed and cut lids for the small Dairy, Food, Beverage, Cosmetic and other industries.

Another Long Service Celebration where our oldest member of staff, Frans Tswai, is acknowledged for loyal service to Labprint for 25 years!

In May, LabPrint visits Interpack in Dusseldorf, Our longstanding material supply partners, Constantia Patz in Austria and other potential suppliers in Europe.

In June LabPrint forms a supply partnership with ACME graphics, well known for their professional and expert service in the Pharmaceutical Industry, for the supply of Artwork and Plates.

2025 is the year of optimising and restructuring. We are transitioning to the Dolphin Worxs Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to unify sales, artwork, production, and QA into one source of truth – improving efficiency, accelerating turnaround times, increasing transparency, and reducing waste while minimising NCRs through real-time traceability and automated controls.
